It's a legal requirement that, prior to any complementary treatment, any animal with a behavioural, medical or other condition or issue must be seen (or being seen) by a vet.
AIT is about therapy, not behaviour modification. Dogs with behavioural problems also need to be receiving ongoing positive leadership and (if needed) professional behaviour training at the same time. This is a prerequisite for dogs showing defensive/aggressive tendencies, as specialised training and confidence building needs to be done in person.
However, if you know that there are deeper issues that are worsening current behaviour (such as those resulting from past trauma, abandonment, neglect or abuse), then AIT can help. I would welcome the opportunity to work with and compliment the work of vets, behaviour specialists and other professionals at any time during the treatment of your animal.
