Exploring your own past lives

One way of to begin to explore the way your own past lives have affected you, in this life, is to look at your childhood/adult interests and passions.  Remember, those situations, people, things and places you dislike are just as significant.

Childhood games

What did you enjoy playing with as a child?  What toys and games did you love best?  Did play with friends or alone?  Did that make you feel good?  What about playing with dolls or action toys – who won a battle? The strong and beautiful or the ones you perceived as weak and dumpy?  “Prison” games – who got ‘locked up’ in the bottom bunk, or shut in a cupboard playing hide and seek?  Cloud gazing… did you pretend to be on a ship and felt this was normal?  Cowboys and Indians – which were you?  And did that role bring up feelings for you?

Clothing styles

What clothing styles have you felt drawn to in your life?  1920s & 50s styles?  Edwardian or Victorian clothing?  Loose, baggy, comfortable styles?  Bare feet or high heels?  Do any of these clothes feel suffocating or restricting, or make you feel vulnerable in some way?  Which clothes or shoes (if any) make you feel relaxed, easy and natural?

Architecture

Which architecture do you feel drawn to?  What style/age is your home?  Is there a geographical style you prefer, eg. a Devon longhouse or a modern apartment?   And do you prefer city, suburban or country styles – and why?

Food preferences

What food do you prefer?  Do you have a love of Middle eastern food?  Or Italian, Chinese, English, etc?  And do you prefer simple or spicy food?  Are you vegetarian?  Do you love or hate potatoes or rice?  What about tropical fruits?

Geographical Locations

What countries are you drawn to?  Imagine the world turning slowly in front of you and noticing what countries you felt drawn to or repelled by.  Which would you love to visit?  Which would you never visit, even if you were paid?  Think about the foods in those countries.  Are you drawn to those foods or repelled by them?  What about the countryside in those countries – what geography do you identify with those countries and how does that make you feel?  Where would you love to go on holiday?

Climates

If you could imagine a perfect place, where would it be?  Would it be dry, hot and sunny, or temperate and cooler?  How do different climates make you feel?  For example, think of being in a damn, humid, wet country in rainy season. Or in desert temperatures with little water.  How do you respond to extremes of temperatures?  How do they make you feel?

Cultures

What cultures do you feel drawn to?  For example, European, Middle Eastern, African, American, Indian, Chinese, etc.

Time periods or historical events

What affinity do you have with periods in history, for example, Mayan, Incas, Roman, Early Christian, Celtic, Viking, Arthurian, Middle Ages, Native American Indian, Elizabethan & Renaissance, Georgian and Victorian periods, to name a few.

Deja vu experiences

Have you been to a place that felt familiar, or had a feeling that you’d been there, or known of it, before?  Have you been

able to travel from one place to another (within a town, area or country) without a map?

Occupations

What jobs have you done in your life?  What careers have you felt drawn to in your life, especially as a child?  Was there an activity you felt naturally comfortable doing?

Talents & abilities

What talents do you have?  Have you ever learned a musical instrument?  Can you sing?  Can you draw, paint or sculpt?  Do you have an affinity with animals?  Are there particular animals you felt drawn to, especially as a child?  Are you a good communicator?  Can you speak easily in public?  Do you feel drawn to (or repelled by) churches or other institutions, hospitals, groups, schools, etc?  Do you love acting or performing?  Are you good with numbers?  What subjects or interests did you excel at?

Race & heritage

What race and heritage do you have?  Did your upbringing support or hinder that?  What races and cultures do you feel drawn to?  Do you have a strong connection with another culture, without knowing why?  Were you brought up in an environment where different races were tolerated or mistrusted?  How did that make you feel as a child?  And how does bigotry and intolerance make you feel?

Books & films

What stories, dramas, literature and films have you loved.  What were they about?  Eg. romantic thrillers, historical dramas, classic literature, romantic sea yarns.  What makes you cry?  What makes you laugh?  If you had to define your favourite, all-time film, story or novel, what would it be?  In a story, which character(s) do you tend to identify with?

Animals & pets

Do you love animals or sometimes feel you hate them?  Are there some animals you feel particularly drawn to or fear?  Do you find some animals drawn towards you (eg. cats) without you knowing why?

Personality traits & mannerisms

What personality traits do you have?  Do you rub your nose or stroke your hair to relax yourself?  Do you roll your lips together, or feel the need to stretch or loosen your neck muscles regularly?  Be aware of where you feel tension in your body at the moment.  And think about things you do, or need to do, that maybe other people don’t.

What illnesses, diseases and scars have you had?  For example, childhood asthma, lower back pain, cystitis, birthmarks, broken bones, scars on face, hands, back, neck, shoulders or elsewhere on body.  Where do you get aches and pains?  Where have you been injured?  Is there a part of your body that has been injured several times, over the course of your life?

Dreams

What dreams have you had in the past?  Have you had recurring dreams? What dreams do you love?  What’s the worst nightmare you’ve ever had?  Do you feel you travel in your dreams – if so, where?  If you don’t know, imagine waking up in the morning – where would you have travelled if you did know?

Past life regression therapy is fascinating, but painful or difficult memories or feelings can surface.  So if you’re interested in exploring your own past lives, find a practitioner you feel safe and comfortable with, and who is qualified and experienced in past-life regression therapy.  Remember, a child could regress someone to a past life.  Knowing how to process a trauma or painful memory safely, ethically and permanently requires training.
