NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) was first developed in the US with a study of the 'science of excellence'.
This study looked at the cognitive skills of highly successful and effective people, and analysed what attitudes and beliefs about themselves and the world around them made them such high achievers. In other words, how were their daily awareness, perception, reasoning and judgements helping them to succeed and perform in a way that other people weren't?
Much of NLP is about creating mental pictures and reinforcing them with sensory information. Because animals think in terms of sensory information, especially feelings and pictures, I have yet to find an NLP technique that can't be used or adapted in some way to benefit them.
Whether anchoring positive feelings, changing past negative associations or creating positive new ones, NLP can help to build confidence and self-esteem, create positive future images and expectations, and reinforce performance or training techniques.
And if part of your animal's behaviour is due to his/her picking up on your vibes, there are NLP techniques to help you both.
